Butterfly Craft

I suggested that we make a Snake S today, but Jacob insisted that we paint butterflies. Who do you think won?

I thought that I’d throw in a lesson on mixing colors, that’s why we used red, blue, and yellow. I’m no artist so the wings are a bit lopsided, but it’s about the process, not the product, right?

You have to mix red and blue really fast to make……

Time to dry. Johnny’s is on the left and Jacob’s is on the right. This is the hard part for me about painting crafts. Usually the boys want to go ahead and finish making it, but you can’t cut out wet paper. :) Today though they were pretty much finished at this point and we assembled the butterflies this afternoon.

I cut out the bodies for them out of black construction paper. Johnny likes to use lots of glue. I made the mistake of having Johnny glue the body down first. It works better to glue the wings and then put the body over them. We added googly eyes and antennae made from a pipe cleaner.
